Reinstating Fire Lines After a New Fire Alarm System
About the building: Savoy Court, Strand, London WC2R 0ET. Grade II* listed theatre, opened 1881 and the first public building in the world lit entirely by electricity. Rebuilt 1929, restored after a fire in 1993. Around 1,150 seats.
The Savoy Theatre stands in Savoy Court, off the Strand, one of the most prestigious addresses in London. A new fire alarm system had been installed across the building, and the cable and equipment routes had breached fire-rated walls and floors. The theatre needed fire stopping works to reinstate its fire lines and upgrade its compartmentation, and Zyan Fire Protection was appointed to carry out the installation.
We surveyed the areas affected by the alarm installation, identified each breach and sealed it with tested fire stopping products suited to the construction and the services involved. A historic theatre calls for care in how and where the work is done, and each seal was labelled and photographed so the theatre holds a record of the works.
The theatre’s compartmentation is now upgraded and its fire lines reinstated, supporting the building’s wider passive fire protection and its fire strategy.
